On 14 January 2020, Extended Support for Windows 7 comes to an end.
What does this mean?
As of January 14th, Windows 7 no longer receives updates from Microsoft. Not only will Windows 7 no longer receive feature updates, but Windows 7 will also no longer receive bug patches or security updates. This will leave systems and organizations using Windows 7 increasingly vulnerable to viruses, spyware, hackers, data loss, identity theft, and ransomware.
In a corporate, non-profit setting, this means putting your operational assets and the data of your clients at risk. The confidentiality of the people that you serve is on the line.
Even worse, Microsoft will no longer be offering technical support for Windows 7. If something does go wrong, your agency will be left entirely on its own, or will be forced to pay dearly for independent tech support and recovery services.
If you are using older versions of Microsoft Office, the same thing applies. Office 2010 reaches its end of life in January 2020 as well. While your Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access) will continue to run, they will no longer be updated, no longer be eligible for technical support, and put your business and your clients increasingly at risk the longer they are in use.
To keep your documents and your data safe, you will need to either install a newer version (such as Office 2013) on every computer in your organization, or move to the Office 365 platform across the board. Either way, it can be a Herculean undertaking, and one that you may not be equipped for.
With decades of experience working with government and nonprofits, Third Way Computing & Review can bring you up to date. We are dedicated to making technology solutions affordable to the small nonprofits in New York State, and making those services accessible.
We work hard to provide quality technical services while using language that you will understand, providing friendly face, and understanding your particular needs. We personalize our work to reflect the fact that we are interacting with human beings, with a wide variety of comfort levels and levels of expertise.
We never forget that the technology is supposed to serve you, not the other way around.
While we're at it, Third Way can help to bring your agency into the 21st century online. Your organization deserves a website that can keep it respected, visible, and competitive. In today's landscape, your website is the face of your organization locally, statewide, and to the wider community. It needs to be attractive, functional, fresh, capable, and responsive, just like your organization!
At the same time, few small nonprofits have the expertise on staff to build and maintain that kind of site, and paying a third party organization would strain their already tight budgets. Third Way has found a way to standardize and streamline this process while still producing a bespoke site that you can be proud of.
